Trexlertown Velodrome 1993. Stephen Pate Crash

Back

The final meeting of the season at Trexlertown Velodrome decided the Rider Of The Year title. Local hero Marty Nothstein was pitted against Australia's badboy Stephen Pate. In the 10-mile race, Tim Quigley looked back and fell over the wheel of Tony Davis. Pate couldn't avoid taking one of the nastiest tumbles ever seen. Remarkably, after spitting up blood, he borrowed a bike as he still needed to put up a strong finish in the last race of the night to avoid losing the season-long title to Nothstein.
