-------------------------------------------- in english/na engleskom The Homeland War was a war of defence for the independance and integrity of the Croatian Statehood and against the aggression of united «Greater Serbian» extremists within the Republic of Croatia, Yugoslav Peoples' Army (JNA), as well as aggression forces from Serbia proper and Montenegro republic. In August of 1990, preceding the Homelend War, sections of Serbian minority within the Republic of Croatia staged violent revolt.Strategically, the Homelend War comprises three stages. During the first stage, up to January 1992, aggression waged against the Republic of Croatia forced Croatian people to defend its sovereignty. Armed conflicts started breaking out in April of 1991, which saw gradual shift and subsequent siding of Yugoslav Peoples' Army with rebel Srbs such that by August of 1991 it developed into a full scale aggression against the Republic of Croatia and was clearly controlled from Serbia. In the second stage, from January 1992 up to May 1995, when the UN peacekeeping forces were placed along the ceasefire lines, the aggression eased somewhat. For the Republic of Croatia that was the time of diplomatic endeavours, negotiations as well as painstaking buliding of its defence forces which were able to carry out smaller localized offensives and successfully liberate several smaller areas of its territory. During the third stage, in May and August of 1995, two major offensives instigated by the Croatian Army saw most of the occupied territories in the regions of Posavina, West Slavonija, as well as in the provinces of Banovina, Kordun, Lika and Northern Dalmatia liberated from the rouge Serbian elements. And finally, in the period between 1996-1998 the remainder of occupied territories in the region of Podunavlje were reintegrated into Croatia with the assistance of the international transitional administration.
