This GUY knows how to play legato 10x better than you, i assure you - he didn't play it that way just to watch your critical comments.

he doesn't express himself, he expresses the music!

Nobody can ham it up like a pianist. This guys pulling some weird kind of Quasimodo\Freddie Mercury fusion. 'Ahh, what a splendid, gay performance,' remarked the dowager, reaching for another madiera as she discretely loosened her patent whale bone corset. 'Whatever shall I do when gayness leaves the world and frightful modern drabness covers us all like some dreadful woolworth's shawl?' she lamented.
'Ahh, have no fear madame,' the colonel expostulate. 'Grigor shall save us, God bless him!'

Maybe "legato" wasn't known yet where Sokolov learned to play the piano... :-)
But i couldn't hold back my tears in the Scherzo and at the beginning of the Finale. What a pity that the rest went down like routine virtuoso power-play...
