They are lucky that only one engine took a bird hit. Had another bird taken out the other engine then it would mostly have been fatal. They were very lucky. Hats off to the pilot.

aren't you meant to turn off electronic devices on takeoff? ie video cameras

Wouldnt serve as much use to them since there is no view of the engine itself. May be helpful in identifyin the strange noise that is made and that birds can fly very high but thats about it.
